How do discounts work?

PierShare offers the opportunity for dock owners to offer discounts for long-term stays at their spaces. We offer the ability to apply a discount to all length of stay types except for transient (1 month or shorter). Specifically, discounts can be attached to the following length of stays: short-term (1-3 months), seasonal (3-6 months), long-term (3-6 months) and annual (12 months or longer).

Whenever a boater inquires about a space, he/she is required to specify their length of stay, and any discount that falls under their length of stay is automatically applied to the pricing of the dock. 

Earning a discount retroactively after docking:

As a boater’s docking begins, PierShare’s back-end systems track the discounts that a boater is currently receiving and if they are entitled to any discounts in the the future, all automatically! As an example, if a boater starts docking under a short-term (1-3 months) length of stay and is receiving a 5% monthly discount, and they end up staying at the same space past 3 months, any seasonal (3-6 months) discount that was present on the listing when they started docking will be applied retroactively. 

Departing a dock early with a discount:

On the other hand, if a boater starts a docking under a length of stay for which they are receiving a discount, and they end up backing out of the docking earlier than expected, PierShare will re-apply the amount of the discount received for however long the boater stayed at the dock to ensure that the pricing aligns with what it would have been if the boater had originally specified they were going to stay for the amount of time that they ended up docking. 

As an example, let’s say a boater specifies a long-term (6-12 months) length of stay for a dock that is priced at $1000 monthly, and receives a 10% discount per month ($100 monthly) for doing so. If the boater ends up renting the dock for 4 months instead of the 6 required for the discount to be applied, they will be charged back $400 for backing out of the docking early, which represents the total discounts that they received under the long-term arrangement. There are no other fees or penalties for ending a docking early.
