PierShare processes all electricity costs at your space by charging the boater’s credit card on file with our company and remitting payment to you in the same manner as we remit payment to you for the dockage costs. However, charges for electricity are processed differently depending upon whether you have an electric meter at your dock that can directly measure the power consumed, or whether the dockside electric consumption feeds into your home electricity bill.
If you have an electric meter located at your dock that can directly measure the power that a docked boat consumes, if you would like to charge separately for electricity we recommend taking a photo of the power meter before the boat is docked and then taking new photos every month while the boat is docked. You can then email these photos to dockservice@piershare.com so that we can charge the boater’s credit card on file and remit payment to you accordingly. We are currently developing functionality that will allow you to specify how much you charge for electric as well as send us the photos of the power meter in your docking dashboard.
If you do not have a separate power meter located at your dock, please note that was per the PierShare $100 Electricity Credit, $100 of electricity is included in the price of all docks that do not have a separate power meter. The $100 of electricity is calculated by taking your current month’s electricity bill and comparing it to the prior month and determining whether the bill did not jump by more than $100. For most of your dockings, even if air conditioning is being lightly used on the boat, most vessels do not draw more than $100 in power.
If you notice that your electricity bill has risen by more than $100 from one month to the next while the boat is docked, please feel free to email it to us at dockservice@piershare.com, and we will charge the boater’s credit card an electric surcharge equal to the amount of electricity used over $100. As an example, if your bill rose by $150 from one month to the next, since the $100 of electricity is already included, we will charge the boater an electric surcharge of $50 and remit the payment to you.
When setting up your listing, if you do not have an electric meter at your dock you should take into account this $100 electricity credit when pricing your space.
