The PierShare docking request process is built around an inquiry system whereby boaters can open an inquiry for a dock and then decide after opening that inquiry whether they would like to secure the space or not. PierShare allows boaters to either sail directly to a space or visit the space before renting to see if it is a fit for them.
To request a space using PierShare, go to any dock listing page, enter your length of stay and anticipated arrival date, and then press “Request to dock”. You will then be taken to the next page which is a short form that allows you to enter all of the information that a dock owner would need to know in order to decide whether they would like you at their space or not.
After pressing submit after filling out this short form, you will then be taken to a centralized dashboard that has all of the controls you need to make any adjustments to your docking as you continue throughout the process. In addition, you will be automatically texted the Secure PierShare number of the dock owner, and he/she will be texted your secure PierShare number so that you both are instantly connected by SMS texting. After you open your inquiry, the dock owner is automatically notified by SMS of your inbound request, and has the ability to invite you to the space if they would like you to rent the space.
You also have the ability to secure the space if you would like before being invited. In any case, the dock owner must provide their approval for you to dock with him/her by either sending you an invite, from which you can secure the space automatically, or by accepting your secure request if they had not sent you an invite already.
After securing the space, you will then be given 30 days to start renting, and will be able to confirm your arrival when you dock safely. If you are renting under a transient (1 month or shorter) length of stay, upon you or the dock owner confirming your arrival, you will be charged for the first day of dockage. If you are renting under any other length of stay, you will be charged for the first month of dockage.
When you are ready to depart the space, you are given the opportunity to prepare to depart by going to the Departure sub-panel of the centralized dashboard where you manage your docking. After you press this button, you are giving a signal to the dock owner that you are preparing to leave within 30 days. After untying your lines and sailing away, you or the dock owner will be able to confirm that you have departed the space. Doing so will stop any additional charges from being placed on your card on file, and you will no longer be able to communicate with the dock owner over their secure PierShare number.
In order to ensure that all dockings happen as smoothly as possible, we recommend that you do not confirm your arrival at the space until you are fully tied up and the boat is docked safely. Similarly, we ask that you do not confirm your departure from the space until your vessel has fully departed.
